Me and my Instax Mini 9

Polaroids have become more of a popular thing over the past few years. The first instant camera was created in 1948 and they're still around creating memories today. I've wanted a Fujifilm Instax camera for ages, both me and my sister agreed that we'd save up to buy one together. When I went to the Photography Show in Birmingham earlier this year, I managed to pick one up for a great price from the lovely team who were representing Fujifilm.

Over the past few months, we've been buying packs and packs of film to document some of the most special memories and also some of the smallest. We have the Instax Mini 9 and have been loving it, the instant photos make it even more fun. All of our older family members have gathered around it to see how their childhood has changed into the more modern form.

Yes, I know that I didn't turn the bloody camera on!
There's something different about taking a photo on an instant camera than on your phone or a digital camera. It's nice to flick through the digital photos on your phone and print a few out for the photo album but eventually they get lost in the swarms of photos that you have in the labyrinth of folders on your hard drives.

The thing with polaroid photos are that you can only take one at a time, you can't hit the button several times because you only have 10 shots and you don't want to waste them all on one moment that you have to perfectly capture. Our Instax Mini 9 allows us to capture the moment, no matter how good we look in the image. Some of my favourite memories are captured on film like our mum opening one of her favourite Mother's Day presents, the amazing moment when me and my sister found some 'thug life' sunglasses in Bath, a selfie I took with my boyfriend on one of our most enjoyable dates.

When I look back at the photos I've taken, they remind me of the photos in Harry Potter. They bring back the short little memory of when I took the photos. Yes, you can do this with live photos on phones now but there's something different about remembering than there is watching.

I thought when we first bought our Instax Mini that we would be going through the film quite quickly but it's funny because you don't. You care for each shot that you have, it sounds weird but you know when the time is right. You know when to take the photo because it's a moment that you just won't want to forget.

I couldn't imagine life without an instant camera now and would love to get my hands on Fujifilm's new Mini Liplay. It's small and compact, enough to slip into your handbag - perfect for festivals this summer!

You can browse the Instax range here.

Until next time...
