Introducing Denis Coleman: the new face shooting for the stars

It's been a while since we've seen the rise of a young musician in the industry, both Justin Bieber and One Direction stole young girls hearts back in 2009/2010 - I was one of them. Could Denis Coleman be the next to take the world by storm?

Denis is a sixteen year old artist that has just been touring as part of The Power of Muzik project which is a mental health and anti-bullying campaign. With today's stigma around mental health, this was something that I was keen to talk to Denis about.

"I think that we are actually in a much better place regarding mental health today than we were even 10 years ago but there’s still a long way to go. One of the key things for helping mental health in my opinion is to raise people’s awareness of it. I know that there are so many people out there who feel like they are the only people going through what they’re going through when, in reality, there are so many who HAVE gone through it, and can help guide them."
Touring can be hard, particularly at a young age. From being an ambassador for The Power of Muzik, Denis has been visiting schools, sharing his music and talking to students about the adversity surrounding mental health.

He's supported The Vamps and is heading on tour with New Hope Club around Europe this month. When I went to go and see The Vamps on their Four Corners Tour, Denis was supporting them and I remember thinking at the time "wow, he's amazing". This isn't me just saying that, I actually said this to my little sister and she 100% agreed with me. What interests me when I speak to artists is what they love most about touring, I was interested in seeing what Denis loves most about it.

"That’s a really hard question haha! I think for me, there are three things that I really love. Firstly, I love being on stage and performing to people, it’s such a unique and exciting experience. Also, it’s great to hang out with New Hope Club and everyone else on the tour as they’re all great people! Lastly, (but certainly not least) I love meeting people from all over the world and seeing places I might not normally be able to visit. I feel like I’ve really learnt a lot about the places I tour."
For a sixteen year old, Denis has had a quick rise in the industry and has been picked up by BBC Radio 1, Shout Magazine and Clash Magazine. If he continues the way that he is, Denis Coleman is a name that you'll be hearing a lot more of. For a relatively young age, Denis knows where he wants to be, I asked him where his passion for music came from:

"I started playing violin when I was 5 and that was when I realized I loved music. From there I got into producing, song writing and eventually singing! Neither of my parents are musicians or very musical but they always encouraged me to pursue music and I think that definitely inspired to me to really go for it!"

He has released odd songs over the past year, his most recent single is called Imperfect. The pop star has been creating music since an early age and has more recently been working with top producers on new music. Imperfect is one of Denis's favourite songs that he has written and has different meanings. The catchy tune has more meaning than its face value. Denis explains what Imperfect is all about:

"It’s partly about me talking to a girl about how we could make a good couple and also a commentary on social media pressures. I find that people feel a ton of pressure today to look and be perfect and I just want to remind everyone that no one is perfect, and at the end of the day our imperfections make us who we are."

As I mentioned, Denis is working in the studio with top producers on new music at the moment. Some names he's worked with are Red Triangle (The Vamps, Ronan Keating, David Guetta, James Arthur), Joe Hartwell Jones (Usher, Adele, Ellie Goulding) and Raphaella (Rudimental, Gorgon City). It's safe to say that Denis has some of the best people working with him on his music right now and it's leading to some great stuff. I asked Denis what he was working on the moment.

"I’m constantly writing new material and there’s definitely going to be some really cool new stuff coming out from me! It’s a combination of styles! There will be some pop bangers that make you dance and also some really cool hip hop influenced pop tracks as well."

Denis Coleman is definitely one to be watching out for. He's proving to be popular when touring with New Hope Club and The Vamps. He's got a long list of achievements and that list is only going to get longer over the coming years.

Until next time...
