LIVE REVIEW: Blossoms

* I was gifted tickets to this event

On Thursday evening I went to DeMontfort Hall to catch Blossoms live. They're playing a few venues and festivals over the next few months and describe them as 'warm up shows'. I can tell you this, it was more than just a warm up. In August they'll be heading to Lincoln and Stoke-on-Trent.

Supported by bands Inhaler and Fuzzy Sun, the crowd were more than ready for Blossoms especially after belting out Bohemian Rhapsody and Don't You Want Me in the interval after Fuzzy Suns. Both Inhaler and Fuzzy Sun put on a brilliant performance, I love watching support acts because some of them are really good and it's a great way to find new music.

The audience didn't need much for a good time. Both a mix of younger and older people, there was a pocket in the standing area that knew how to have fun. Before Blossoms came on stage, they were singing their hearts out to the music being played, jumping up and down, readying themselves for the main act.

Blossoms entrance was pretty dramatic. The set was so simple yet striking. There were horizontal stripped lights going across the stage, patterns would light up in different formations and different colours all night. This was no small set, I could see this being in an arena and is up there with The 1975 and their set on their A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships tour.

The set list was pretty long with the band playing Honey Sweet, Fourteen, At Most a Kiss, their latest single Your Girlfriend and others. The crowd were singing everything back to the Tom and the rest of the band, everyone in the venue loved every moment of the show. My personal favourites were I Can't Stand It and Love Talk. At one point Tom let his bandmates go for a rest while he performed some acoustic songs and covers which was a special moment shared by everyone.

Coming out again for the encore, Blossoms played Unfaithful, There's A Reason Why (I Never Returned Your Calls) and Charlemagne. All three got a great reception. During There's A Reason Why, the band stopped playing for the crowd to sing the song back to them, it was a phenomenal moment.

When the show ended, there wasn't one person sitting down, everyone had stood up, cheering. Blossoms seemed genuinely loved and content by the standing ovation - they fully deserved it. They put on an amazing show and it was quite possibly one of the best live performances I've seen in a very long time. The band loved performing, the audience loved watching and dancing and it was all in all a brilliant evening.

If you can catch Blossoms live, I would highly recommend it.

Until next time...
