Is the Deep Action Extreme: Targeted Solution effective? | AD

Skincare is a massive deal to me due to my skin being covered in acne and scarring, over the past few months it's also become super dry because of my Thyroid. On a more basic term, my skin is really problematic. Superdrug have just released their new Deep Action line: Deep Action Extreme. I was kindly sent one of the products from the line to try out since they promised to target spots and blemished skin.

The product that I received is the Targeted Solution which has AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) Lactic Acid as one of the ingredients which helps reduce the appearance of redness and blemishes as well as targeting spots. It's a small tube but I've been using it morning and nights, like suggests in the directions, for a few weeks now and I've still got loads left.

The Ingredients

Looking at the ingredients on the back, this includes Witch Hazel, Glycolic Acid which I'm always banging on about how it works wonders for acne and scarring, and Lactic Acid which is an AHA. All of these will target spots, blemishes and redness and are widely used in skincare to target these problems.

Lactic Acid is an organic chemical, you might know it from science lessons - it's what your body produces when you exercise that causes your muscles to ache. In skincare, Lactic Acid stimulates cell renewal, exfoliating the skin for a brighter complexion. It improves the skins texture, smooths out bumps and helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Lactic Acid is more gentle than Glycolic Acid but since they are both included in the Deep Action Extreme Targeted Solution, I recommend doing a small skin test before applying it to your face. Similarly, make sure to wear a good SPF as these acids can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight.

The Packaging

The tube holds 15ml of the product and is pretty basic. What stands out to me the most is the applicator. Usually with small spot treatment tubes like these, the application can be quite messy but this has a small pen tip to make the application process easier, to ensure that you're targeting the correct areas and are not over-compensating.

Most importantly, the packaging is widely recycled. I'm huge on using recyclable products - I always go out of my way to check the packaging and if I won't be damaging the environment if I use it. I urge you to look at everything that you use to see if it's recyclable - things that you would have never of guessed can be recycled and we need to save the planet.

My Experience

The directions state that you should apply the Targeted Solution onto cleansed skin, morning and night, then let the solution sink into your skin. As I mentioned, I've been doing this for a few weeks now. I suffer terribly from acne. I don't expect this product to target the cystic acne but have been applying it to this and the smaller spots as well as my scarring. I've been using this treatment along with my usual skincare regime.

Since there are a lot of ingredients in this that can be quite harsh on sensitive skin, I was reluctant to use it too much. However, this doesn't burn my skin, leave it tingling or feeling tight in anyway which sometimes happens with my Glycolic Acid products. The formula is a gel and it's super soothing on the skin.

I mentioned that I'm applying this to all of the red areas, spots and blemishes that I have. I thought that it was only fair to give it a good trial. It takes the smaller spots down really quickly and I've begun seeing a difference in my scarring, the solution has definitely toned it all down! In terms of the cystic acne, nothing is ever going to get rid of that but the Targeted Solution has targeted these areas and reduced the soreness and size of the acne which honestly surprised me.

Final thoughts

Overall, I'd say that this is by far one of the best store-bought acne treatments that I've tried in my four/five years of suffering with terrible skin. The Targeted Solution is gentle on the skin but is fast acting and does a brilliant job at reducing redness and spots. I'm definitely going to be buying more of this .

The Deep Action Extreme Targeted Solution is available in Superdrug stores for £5.99. It's not on the website just yet but keep an eye out!

Until next time...
