INTERVIEW | RØYLS: Savages

There's a new band on the scene and they're called RØYLS. Made up of Liam Ross, Sean Killeen and Drew Dirksen, RØYLS are going to blow up the music scene with their new single, Savages. You may recognise their names from previous bands that they've been in (Take28, Over Atlantic, The Tide and O.D.L), they've bought their creative minds together, along with songwriting legend, John Feldman to curate the ultimate get up and dance track.

There's no doubt that John Feldman has worked with the band on this track, it's got his signature style - listen to 5 Seconds of Summer, Panic! At The Disco and Good Charlotte and you'll understand where I'm coming from. But this isn't Feldman's song, this is Liam, Sean and Drew. I think that they've all created a great song and is a perfect introduction to RØYLS. And is that a potential hint to new music on their single artwork I see????? I'm looking forward to what else they're going to surprise us with -  if it's anything like Savages, they're going to smash it out of the park!

Speaking of introductions, I got to know the lads a bit more and I'm sharing all of the information you need to know about the newest band on the block.

__________

Who are RØYLS?

RØYLS is a 3 piece band of vocalist/guitarist Sean Killeen from Liverpool, guitarist/vocalist Drew Dirksen from Ohio and bassist/vocalist Liam Ross from Washington. We started making music under RØYLS in California last September.

Why was RØYLS created?

We wanted to express ourselves in the most authentic way through music and RØYLS is exactly that. The 3 of us have grown up as musicians and writers in past bands and RØYLS felt perfect to continue to grow as people and musicians. Our main goal is always to put on a great show, and connect with as many people as possible through our music.

What are your goals for the band?

Our main goals are to meet as many people as possible who dig our music. To continuously create live shows that people will remember and keep creating music that we feel is true to ourselves and hope that people connect with it.

Where did the band name come from?

We had such a hard time coming up with the name! As do all new bands considering literally 99% of band names are taken!! We stumbled across RØYLS on a big band name brainstorm session and it just felt right when we wrote it down on paper.

What is the inspiration behind your new single, “Savages”?

The songs “Savages” is about a not so bright topic. The inspiration behind the song is about a failing relationship. It’s the conversation of how do we save what’s left before everything that we have is gone forever.

You worked with John Feldman on your single, what was it like to work with such an influential name in the industry?

He’s THE man. His work ethic and musical ability is inspirational and it is such an honour to be in the same room as him, working on RØYLS songs and the band together. He’s the secret 4th member.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

The three of us have a wide range of influences for different reasons that we could talk about for hours about who made us pick up a guitar for the first time or made us start our first band! But, collectively with this group, the main bands that have influenced us recently would have to be The 1975 and Twenty One Pilots. What they’ve done is incredible.

__________

I have to agree with the last answer to be perfectly honest, The 1975 and Twenty One Pilots are the two bands that are on a constant repeat in our house and I'm sure RØYLS are going to fit right in.

Go and support Liam, Sean and Drew on Twitter, Instagram and Spotify.

Until next time...
