Platinum solo artist, Paloma Faith, visited De Montfort Hall, Leicester, on her The Infinite Things Tour with supporting guest, Josef Salvat. I was kindly invited to head down to the show on Wednesday 20 October and had a wonderful time!
Paloma Faith is a British singer/songwriter with a rich history in the industry. Known for her unique, soulful voice and eccentric style, this was a concert I was definitely looking forward to. Her entrance was definitely dramatic, with a large-scale shadow of her singing the introducing lines to Last Night on Earth from her most recent album, Infinite Things, before a curtain dropped and Paloma walked out in a stunning gold number.
Taking a second to just admire her outfit alone, Paloma Faith looked absolutely stunning in a metallic gold midi dress with a detachable train that was taken off a few songs into her performance so she could really get down to some colourful dancing!
We heard a variety of songs from Paloma including plenty from her latest album, Infinite Things, including Gold, Infinite Things, Beautiful & Damned, Picking Up The Pieces, Monster, If This Is Goodbye and Better Than This. Midway through the show, Paloma took a few of her vocalists and sat down on the steps on stage to do some shortened versions of her 'classics'. The audience were encouraged to stand and sing along to Stone Cold Sober, Stargazer, 30 Minute Love Affair and Upside Down.
It's safe to say that Paloma gave it her absolute all, she knelt on the floor dramatically half way through Guilty, danced all the way through Monster and twerked against the grand piano during Can't Rely On You. Paloma's energy was reflected by the audience during Upside Down where there was plenty of singing, lots of clapping and stamping of feet during Picking Up The Pieces and crazy energy and dancing during Lullaby.
There were some incredibly powerful slower songs like Infinite Things and If This Is Goodbye which is about a friend of Paloma's who was very ill during lockdown. There was so much emotion behind the lyrics of this song.
I was expecting plenty of interaction with the crowd from Paloma and I was correct. We heard lots of stories about her time in the industry including one time that Prince invited her to a festival when she was first starting out back in 2009. She was pulled on stage by Chaka Khan to sing I'm Every Women in which she awkwardly didn't know the lyrics to! Following the embarrassing performance, she called her mum and told her that she was going to come home to pursue a career as a Primary School teacher. Paloma then went onto sing I'm Every Woman for us now she has learnt the lyrics.
For the final song, Only love Can Hurt Like This, the crowd shone their torches and lit up the venue.
This was an incredible performance by Paloma and her band and I hope to see her again soon in 2022 on her The Age of Optimism Tour. You can purchase tickets for that tour here. You can find Paloma Faith full discography here.
