It's been trapped in my wardrobe for a whole month until the other day when I decided to wear it out for a photoshoot in Leicester City Centre. Big Mistake.
The problem was not the weight that I've seemed to have lost in the time that I actually purchased the skirt or the fact that I had to shave my legs for the first time in forever. The problem was the design - the whole design. I had fallen in love with the wrap skirt in the changing room, I put it on, looked in the mirror and bam! In love. The problem was walking in the skirt, going up the stairs on the bus and facing the treacherous wind that November knows well.
My love for the wrap skirt
This midi skirt is pretty comfortable when you wear it. I wish I got some wear out of it before I miraculously lost weight because all it seems to do now is fall down but regardless, it's still a comfortable skirt. With two invisible buttons and a tie, there is no chance of a wardrobe malfunction in terms of the skirt unwrapping itself - it's 100% secure.
I also think that I look quite nice in it. Frustratingly, it sits on my hips now but when I actually tried it on, it made me look pretty slim. It flatters those with bigger hips and can be dressed up or down. I brought these pink heels for the photoshoot only, before and after I was wearing white trainers and it still looked pretty good if I do say so myself!
In the summer, this would definitely be a perfect skirt and I would love to buy a few more!
My hate for the wrap skirt
Despite the weight loss, there are a couple more things that I picked up on that would definitely put me off wearing this skirt in certain circumstances.
First off, this is a midi skirt but the slit in it due to the wrapping of the fabric is pretty high. It may be that I have short legs but I wasn't overly impressed at how much leg I was showing walking up the stairs and sitting down. I think a couple inches higher and it would have been hard to cover myself when I was sitting on the bus. This is a huge negative factor in the skirt. I discovered as I was walking that if moved around, the slit would be more appropriate but keeping the skirt in this position was virtually impossible.
When I was walking, the skirt would move a lot, which I was expecting but I was struggling to keep the skirt from showing pretty much my whole thigh (front and inner) thanks to the movement. It definitely didn't make me feel very confident walking through the city centre!
When doing the photoshoot, the wind decided to pick up a little bit. I've lost count of how many photos there are where the shirt has fully blown open. Thank God I was wearing shorts underneath because it was a pure embarrassment!
My final thoughts
I can't quite make my mind up on the wrap skirt. It's definitely a great item of clothing but it does have it's downsides. For that reason, I'll be wearing mine on occasion, at times where I can be sure that I'm not going to be embarrassing myself!
What are your thoughts on the wrap skirt?
Until next time...
