Get Lost In Shawn Mendes's New Self Titled Album

Earlier this year, Shawn released two songs, In My Blood and Lost In Japan which were a hit. After his 2017 album, Illuminate, which I love, I was excited to hear what he would next come up with and release.

The 19 year old has smashed it with his self titled album and I can't get enough of it. Released on May 25th 2018, Shawn Mendes: The Album has astounded everyone with his meaningful lyrics. With his hit singles, In My Blood, Lost In Japan, Youth (ft. Khalid) and Nervous, the album has exceeded my expectations.

When first listening to the tracks, Why, Where Were You In The Morning and Queen, I was slightly unsure on how I could love this album. I wasn't loving them to be completely honest but they've been growing on me and I now can't get enough of the album as a whole. It screams Shawn Mendes all over and I think it's great - his best album yet.

Of course I have my favourite tracks; Nervous, Queen, Mutual and Particular Taste. Nervous and Particular Taste give me Prince vibes which I didn't expect from Mendes but I think they really work well. When I was listening to Fallin' For You (coincidently, this just came on when I wrote that - spooky) I picked up on Ed Sheeran's writing skills and was just about to check when Sheeran came up on my Instagram feed talking about the song he's written for Shawn.

I think that this album really shows Shawn's emotional side, more than his previous albums. The singer suffers with anxiety and he has become more open about this in his self titled album with his single, In My Blood. However, I think some people have missed this in some of his previous songs. Hold On, a song on his deluxe version of Illuminate, suggests his struggles with mental heath as well as A Little Too Much on his first album, Handwritten.

This album has some great collaborations on it with Khalid on Youth and Julia Michaels on Like To Be You. At the age of 19, Shawn has collaborated with those younger successful artists who are much like himself within their music. He has done so well for himself at such a young age, not many people can say they've released three studio albums by the age of 19, two of which have been number 1 on the Billboard 200 and the third heading for the same destiny.

I bought a physical copy of Shawn's self titled album as soon as I could and you should too - it's a great album that you're bound to fall in love with.

Until next time...
