Interview With Club Drive

Club Drive are a four piece pop/funk band form Hertfordshire, UK. These four lads were destined for big things since the beginning of their career, catching the attention off of BBC Introducing and many other people. They have a crisp fresh sound that everyone is sure to love, you'll be missing out of you don't have a listen to their fantastic music.

I have been lucky enough to interview Club Drive, regrettably I couldn't make one of their tour dates to support them live. You can though, they are playing three dates:

  • 14th March 2017 - London, The Garage
  • 18th March 2017 - Manchester, Sound Control
  • 21st March 2017 - Birmingham, Sunflower Lounge

I hope you enjoy this interview and find out some more about these awesome guys!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Could you please give yourselves a quick introduction?
Absolutely, we're Club Drive. 4 guys from Hertfordshire, who started writing music for the love of it and somewhere along the line it all got a bit out of hand :)
How did you come up with the name ‘Club Drive’ – it’s quite unusual?
It is a bit I guess... In truth it was a name that just sort of jumped out at us, but it speaks volumes about what we're about. Club - because our music is very much about getting people together and just having a good time ... Drive because that's absolutely what's keeps us going!
What was your favourite moment in 2016 as a band?
There were genuinely a lot of overwhelming moments in 2016 (and plenty to come we hope) a big highlight was selling out our debut headline show at Islington's O2 Academy main room...Unreal!
You performed at the Fusion Festival last year in Liverpool, did you get to meet any inspiring people?
Yeah loads, it was nice to meet a lot of other artists that still have a genuine passion for what they're doing. It's nice to be able to see that success, at such a huge level, hasn't changed a lot of artists.
 Club Drive - Overthrown
You’re due to play Live At Leeds soon, with such people as The Hunna, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Slaves and Honeyblood, how are you feeling about that and can we expect to see you at any other festivals this summer?
You can expect to see us at LOTS of festivals this year and we're genuinely excited to announce more soon. Great line up at Live at Leeds this year and we're really looking forward to it.
Your most recent single is Spare Time - who wrote it, or did everybody contribute?
It was definitely a team effort as most, if not all, of our songs are. Fun fact; 50% of the lyrics for this song were written stuck in major traffic on the hottest day of the year & the other 50% written on the toilet...You're welcome.
What do you do in YOUR spare time to relax?
We all have loads of hobbies but sadly not a lot of spare time at all...
Out guitarist lives by the sea which is obviously a nice place to relax and our drummer does his best to escape to go fishing from time to time but on the whole it's music 24/7 🏼
Can we expect any new music, possibly an album, anytime soon?
Definitely.. LOADS of new music and hopefully an album to follow, but plenty of things to come that's for sure.
Your artwork for Dangerous is a wolf. If you had to choose, what animal would you be and why?
Great Question. For me personally (Aaron) it would have to be a Lion, I love food and I love sleep and if my knowledge serves me write all thy do is eat and sleep... Dream!
Do you have any nicknames for each other? If you don’t, what name would you pick for another member?
I guess we all have like nicknames or shortening of names anyway - nothing too juicy I don't think, though I'm known to get called princess if I'm warming up instead of loading our gear in and out!
Can you explain each other’s personalities in three words?
3 words is tough but here goes
Christian - The Mad Professor
Steve - The Easy Goer
Tommy - The Creative One
Aaron - The Control Freak
Where would you like to see yourself in a couple of years?
It would be great to be riding some sort of success, having played some great shows and had our songs recognised for various bits and pieces.. But ultimately everything we've done this far is still overwhelming to us so anything could happen I guess.
Finally, do you have a message for your fans?
Message for the fans.. A genuine thank you! We write music for the fun of writing it, the fact that people seem to really get into it means a lot to us and to be honest it feels very surreal at times. What we've achieved in the past year has been absolutely mental and it's because of people taking their time to listen to our music and come and see us live that any of it is possible. Big year ahead.. Let's do this!
