You’ve just released your new single, Run Me Down. Can you talk me through that?
Run Me Down is the first song I’ve released since I put my album out in August last year so it really feels like the start of a new chapter! I be been sitting on this song for a few years now and there’s a load of songs lined up to follow this one! The reaction so far feels really positive so I can’t wait to get the rest out.Your songs are often quite raw and open to emotional vulnerability, do you write from experience?
Yeah I do write about things that are close to me, I think you always sing the song a lot better if you are really connected to what you are singing about.Stay Awake with Me – Acoustic was released earlier this year. What made you decide to create an acoustic version of your album?
I’ve always thought that a song isn’t a solid song unless it can hold its own completely acoustic, so it was a bit of a test and also when I play live I usually play really stripped back.Your first headline show at London St Pancras Old Church is this June. How are you feeling about that?
Really looking forward to it! It’s actually my third time at St Pancras Old Church so it’s going to be great, my last headline London gig was the Jazz Cafe in London so it’s going to be a really different feel. Before your recent career in music you weren’t so sure on what you were going to do with your life. What’s the one thing that you would tell your younger self if you could?
Before I became a full time musician I was training to be a carpenter, it was my second favourite career choice after being a musician. I went with it because when I told the career advisor at school that I wanted to be a musician they told me to think of something more sensible, I then had an accident in the workshop that pushed me to pick up my guitar and start gigging around all the pubs and start taking the steps to where I am now.Dan Owen - Run Me Down (Official Video)
Made to Love You is featured on the Spotify Heartbreaker playlist but what is your go to song to cure a broken heart?
That song is actually really the opposite to a love song, I knew a friend was having a hard time in his relationship when I was out on tour so we went for a pint when I got back. After a few pints he told me she’d been violent to him and showed me some cuts and bruises, I thought it was something that needed to be talked about so when I went back to my flat I wrote a song about it.If you were throwing a party, who would be the five people you’d put on the guest list (dead or alive)?
Chris StapletonWillie Dixon
Ben Fogle
Will Smith
David Attenbourgh
And what would be your top 3 songs to get the crowd on the dancefloor?
Earth, Wind & Fire - SeptemberQueen - The Show Must Go On
Nathanael Rateliff - S.O.B
For those who fancy seeing your live this year, where can we find you?
There’s a few festivals scattered through the summer, but we are just in the process of getting another tour together so that I can come and play to as many people as possible!Do you have a message for your fans?
Just a massive thanks to anyone that’s ever come to a gig, liked a post, streamed the album or brought me a pint, it’s all massively appreciated and I’ll hopefully see you out on the road somewhere._____________________________
