Interview With Scarlet Kill

Scarlet Kill are a band from Gold Coast, Australia and create some great original rock/pop music as a foursome. Made up of twins, Matt and Will, younger brother, Mitch, and friend Bryce, the lads have been smashing it with their EP, She Draws The Heart Out Of My Love. This is band that no doubt you will fall in love with, and for those fans that are reading, I'm sure you can agree that Scarlet Kill are destined for big things.

On to the interview!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Where did the name Scarlet Kill come from?
Matt: Well to begin this explanation I should tell you that we were/are big fans of Sum 41. When we were trying to decide on a band name Will professed his love for the song title ‘Jessica Kill’. We then played around with a few names and colours until we decided on Scarlet Kill. The name just sat so well for us, we knew it was a keeper as soon as we created it.
Can you tell us one interesting thing about yourselves that nobody knows?
Will: I’m a huge fan of the Harry Potter universe. Is that interesting? haha
Mitch: The first instrument I learned to play was the trumpet!
Matt: Well this one counts for everyone, but I’m going to use it anyway! We grew up in a very small country town called Killarney.
You started off Scarlet Kill in your garage, at what point did you realise that you wanted to persue the music career? Were you in any bands at school?
Mitch: We were all involved with music from quite young ages. I think we all started playing classical instruments at our school in grade four, so that would’ve made us nine years old. It wasn’t until we were about 12 and we became really passionate about bands like Green Day and Fall Out Boy that we picked up guitars and started to jam more contemporary music. We mucked around with our neighbour that was a drummer for a couple of years and it was awesome. Now we’ve released some records and really do take it all quite seriously.
Who are your musical influences?
Will: Maybe these are the bands that all young rock musicians look up to but they were really what brought us into the music scene and inspired us to pick up our guitars in the first place. Fall Out Boy and Green Day are two of the bands that have remained influential figures for all of us from the very beginning. Panic! At The Disco have been releasing some killer material that we are really digging as well. I’d be lying if I didn’t include My Chemical Romance on this list- so there you have it ;)
You’ve recently released She Draws the Heart Out of My Love, can we expect a tour anytime soon to showcase your new music?
Matt: We toured Japan and Australia upon the release of the EP – which was amazing – but we haven’t got any tours lined up as it stands at the moment. You can stay sharp for new music/tours in the not too distant future however!
Don't Wake Up Official Music Video
In 2016, you toured over in Japan, where else would you love to tour to and why?
Mitch: Yes Japan! That was one of the best times we’ve had as a band. To be honest, we want to tour everywhere and anywhere. If we had to choose one country in particular I’d have to say America as we have a bunch of support coming from over that way. It would be incredible to meet them all.
Who would you love to support on tour, if you had the chance?
Matt: Oh this is easy. Fall Out Boy! Those boys are legends and we feel like touring with them would be so much fun.
Your music videos are pretty neat, what’s your favourite part of filming them?
Will: Oh cheers! We’re pretty proud of them. We put a lot of work and time into making each and every one of them. We feel like the visual element of music is becoming more and more important every day and we want to allow our fans to explore our creations - not just aurally but visually as well. I’d have to say that my favourite part of filming is just going crazy when the camera wants me to! My Dear is probably the best example of this :P
What’s your most memorable moment with a fan?
Mitch: A fan once drove something like four hours to see us play- but that’s not even the good part yet- she also brought brownies to give to us! It was truly the best day ever.
I noticed that Matt has tickets to see Harry Styles on tour, what’s your favourite song off his album or whilst he was in One Direction?
Matt: Harry Styles is my man; his latest album is eargasmic! But if had to pick a favourite, “Ever Since New York” would definitely take the win.
Would you rather have a writing session with Harry Styles of Fall Out Boy?
Mitch: I think by now your getting the gist of how loyal we are to the lords we mortals call Fall Out Boy.
I noticed that Ron Weasley (Mitch) visited the Harry Potter Universal Studios in Japan. What’s your favourite Harry Potter book/film?
Mitch: Yes! It was a lot of fun running around as Ron Weasley for a day! It’s hard to pick favourites but I really love Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Which Harry Potter character would you associate yourself with and why?
Will: Hmmm this question is a surprisingly tough one! I’m going to go with Newt Scamander. I hope he counts. He loves animals and puts up a good fight when he needs to. I just seem to resonate well with him in general!
Matt: When we’d play pretend when we were super young I somehow always ended up with Hermione. Wasn’t my choice, but I guess I’m just going to stick with that haha
Mitch: You’re all probably expecting me to pick Ron Weasley because of my ginger hair, so let’s just go with that.
Who named your mascot, (AKA your pet cat) Draco? He’s black, not platinum blonde!
Will: Well, he’s my cat and as you know HP is my thing. So, I naturally wanted to name him after a HP character- but let me tell you it wasn’t easy. I was convinced I was going to call him either Dobby or Hagrid, but then I realized his eyes were very green against him black fur— which are the colours of Slytherin. And so, he was named after the coolest Slytherin to exist, Draco.
Finally, have you got any messages for your fans?
Matt: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for following us on our journey so far. We believe that it’s only just begun and the best is yet to come. Stay tuned for exciting things to come later in the year. We’re hitting the studio very soon.
