Richard III

So sorry that this has taken so long but here is some details about King Richard the Third and his reinterment.

King Richard III died at Bosworth Battlefield, Leicestershire on 22 August 1485, only to be rediscovered under a car park in Leicester City Centre over 500 years later!

You probably recall the news from two years ago when the discovery was made, you could hardly have missed it, but now the chapter is about to end.

Richard III’s body will be re-interned in Leicester Cathedral later this Month, watched by millions all over the world.

Coming from Leicester I have a personal interest in this event and would like to share some details with you.

The week will commence on 22^st March with the Kings body leaving the Leicester University where it has been held since its discovery to travel to Fenn Lane Farm (near the Bosworth Battlefield) where it is said the King died.

The Cortege will then make its way through the Leicestershire countryside via villages such as Dadlington and Sutton Cheney which are also said to have links to his last days and the battle.

It will arrive at The Bosworth Battlefield Heritage centre ( www.bosworthbattlefield.com ) where the Bishop of Leicester will lead a short ceremony before making its way back to Leicester, Via Market Bosworth, Newbold Verdon and Desford.

Once it reaches Bow Bridge in the City of Leicester a horse drawn hearse will be used to complete the final leg of his journey through the streets of the city to Leicester Cathedral.

The Kings remains will stay within the Cathedral until Wednesday in order that members of the public can pray and pay their respects.

The Re-burial service takes play on Thursday 26 March, taken by The Archbishop of Canterbury and attended by her Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex (Wife of Prince Edward) and His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester.

On Friday the Cathedral will hold a ceremony to mark the end of King Richard’s journey and the sealed tomb will be revealed to the public.

In the evening there will be a free event, open to the public which will take place in and around Jubilee Square & Cathedral Gardens, ending in a firework display from the Cathedral roof.

The weeks proceedings will be followed closely by Channel 4 who were following the kings discovery from the start, make sure you tune in if you can’t be here in person.

While you are around make sure you visit the new King Richard III visitors centre which is right next door to the cathedral. Make sure you book your place though as I am sure its going to be pretty popular during that week.
